It would appear he caught the eye of AZ as they have handed him a bumper five-year contract.
Martens will be battling with Haris Medunjanin for a role in AZ's starting XI next term and his capture will come as a boost to coach Louis van Gaal - with Barry van Galen set to retire and Kenneth Perez heading to Ajax.
The Belgian is unlikely to be the only new face at AZ, with the club in talks with Willem II about Moussa Dembele and Kemy Agustien.
AZ expect to wrap up deals next week, with Dembele set to join their squad and Agustien likely to be loaned out.
RKC are thought to be in pole position to sign Agustien on loan and another piece of positive news concerns Ramon van Haaren (pictured) who will spend next season with the club after signing a new deal.
The defender signed a one-year contract upon his arrival at the club from Feyenoord last summer.
He produced a string of consistent efforts during the course of the campaign and this prompted the club's board to hand him another year's commitment.
The 33-year-old is heading into the autumn of his career, but the club clearly feel his experience can aid them in the Eredivisie next term.
