AZ Alkmaar have completed the signing of Ronald Waterreus.

The veteran Dutch keeper has been snapped up by AZ boss Louis van Gaal after he lost both Joey Didulica and Khalid Sinouh to injury.

The former Rangers man has been in talks with American outfit New York Red Bulls and he could still move to MLS next year.

Waterreus has penned a deal until next summer, but AZ will not stand in his way once their injury situation has cleared up.

Meanwhile, midfielder Martijn Meerdink has confirmed he is ready to leave the club when the transfer window reopens next month.

"If the trainer doesn't need me, I rather go somewhere else", said Meerdink in Voetbal International.

"I hope that the club want to co-operate, so that I can still play a couple of years in Germany."

Van Gaal has confirmed that the 30-year-old can leave the club.

"Can he leave if there comes a club in January? Yeah that's the case, yes," added van Gaal.
