AZ Alkmaar midfielder Stijn Schaars is out for up to 10 weeks with an ankle injury.
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Stijn Schaars is out for up to 10 weeks following surgery on a long-standing ankle problem.
The former Vitesse Arnhem player has been bothered by the problem for some time and the midfielder opted to have the operation on his ankle this week.
After going under the knife on Wednesday, it was discovered that Schaars's ankle had more damage than first thought, with his prognosis now 10 weeks instead of the initial time-line of six weeks.
Schaars will be joined on the sidelines by Australian goalkeeper Joe Didulica, who is expected to have ankle surgery of his own on 6th February.
