The midfielder is currently on loan at Alaves, having been told he had no future in Amsterdam under Co Adriaanse.
However, the arrival of Ronald Koeman heralded a change of policy at the Amsterdam ArenA, and it had been rumoured for some time that Witschge would be brought back into the fold.
Following talks with Koeman and technical director Leo Beenhakker, Ajax revealed that the 32-year-old would be brought back to the club in the summer.
Witschge, who has performed consistently for Alaves this term, will be delighted that he will be handed a chance to represent a team he has already played 258 times for.
Witschge`s deal with Ajax has a further season to run, and he is likely to grasp the chance with both hands.
Meanwhile, rumours in Holland are claiming Ajax will offer Tomas Galasek to Willem II in a bid to bring Dutch international Denny Lendzaat to the ArenA.
Lendzaat would relish the opportunity to prove himself at Ajax after making just one appearance in his first spell with the club in the mid 1990s, while Galasek is desperate for first-team football and may accept the switch.
