Champions Ajax were forced to survive a late scare at RBC before edging a 3-2 triumph on their travels.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired the visitors ahead on 58 minutes and when Tomas Galasek (67) and Cristian Chivu (75) added their names to the scoresheet, RBC looked dead and buried.
But an 85th minute strike from Nordin Wooter and a goal from Geert den Ouden four minutes later ensured a nail-biting climax to the contest.
PSV cruised to another win as they put Eredivisie new boys Zwolle to the sword 3-1.
Mateja Kezman opened the scoring on 18 minutes but Marino Promes equalised just after half-time - the first goal PSV have conceded this season.
Kezman restored PSV's lead and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink sealed the success five minutes from time.
Feyenoord are clinging to the coat-tails of the top two after a 2-0 home victory over De Graafschap.
Pierre van Hooijdonk put his side on the way to three points at De Kuip after just six minutes and Thomas Buffel notched a second on 56 minutes.
Willem II were held to a 1-1 draw at home to NEC Nijmegen, who took the lead through Danny Hesp's 28th minute penalty.
The hosts earned a share of the spoils courtesy of Jatto Ceesay's 59th minute equaliser.
