Ronald Koeman`s Ajax are searching for a new keeper and recently offered a contract to Utrecht captain Wapenaar.
Wapenaar is set to leave Utrecht in the summer as they cannot offer him a suitable new contract.
Ajax came forward and offered him a deal, but the keeper voiced his concerns over whether he would be able to dislodge Bogdan Lobont as number one.
With the player undecided on whether to accept the deal, Ajax took the decision out of his hands and withdrew the offer.
Wapenaar is keen to secure regular first-team football and reportedly has offers from Italy and Germany.
Koeman, meanwhile, is set to firm up his interest in Twente Enschede shot-stopper Boschker.
The Twente man has been a name linked with Ajax for some time, and the Amsterdammers are set to beat off rival interest from Belgian side Club Brugge to secure the talented keeper.
