Heitinga happy to fight for place

By Mitchell Glorie
Johnny Heitinga has insisted he is not interested in taking a loan move away from Ajax.

The defender has only recently recovered from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered in January of 2002, and Ajax have hinted they would consider loaning the player in order to ease him back into competitive action.

Heerenveen and Vitesse Arnhem have expressed interest in signing Heitinga, but the player is adamant he wants to fight for his place at the Amsterdam ArenA.

"I'm fully fit again and I'll get my chances," Heitinga told Voetbal International. "I don't see any reason to leave."

The 19-year-old featured for the first time since January 27, 2002 when playing in the 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven at the weekend.
