Ronald Koeman's Ajax have carried all before them domestically this term and they seemed set to move within a whisker of the title after Zlatan Ibrahimovic put them in front with 20 minutes remaining.
Rafael van der Vaart was the architect behind the goal, as he carved open the Feyenoord defence before laying the ball into the path of Ibrahimovic who made no mistake from close in.
However, Feyenoord are always tough nuts to crack at De Kuip and they made Ajax battle all the way on Sunday, with Kuyt netting a leveller with seconds left to play.
Ajax appeared to have weathered the storm and looked set to hold on, but they had not counted on Kuyt who popped up to snatch a dramatic equaliser following good work from Robin van Persie.
PSV Eindhoven cut into Ajax's lead a little with a 5-0 win over Groningen.
Mateja Kezman was PSV's scorer against Newcastle in midweek and he carried on his fine run with a hat-trick. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Johann Vonlanthen completed the rout.
Twente bounced back from conceding in the first minute to win 2-1 at RBC Roosendaal.
Pius Ikedia had RBC in front inside 60 seconds, but two second-half goals from Simon Cziommer turned the game in Twente's favour.
Relegation threatened Vitesse Arnhem fought back from two goals down to draw with NAC Breda.
Anouar Diba, who was later sent off, and Orlando Engelaar had NAC two up at the break, but Vitesse showed great spirit and two goals in three minutes by Theo Janssen and Mamadou Zongo secured a point for the home side.
