Wesley Sneijder grabbed the opening goal just before the hour, and Nicolae Mitea made it 2-0 before a Ryan Babel brace secured the three points.
NEC Nijmegen edged a 3-2 victory at home to Heerenveen, with Rob Wielaert's third minute penalty giving the hosts the perfect start.
Daniel Berg Hestad restored parity on 17 minutes but Romano Denneboom put NEC back in front four minutes after half time.
Denneboom made it 3-1 on 75 minutes but Mika Vayrynen's late strike ensured a nervy final minute for NEC.
Hans van de Haar grabbed the only goal of the game as Utrecht earned a 1-0 win against FC Den Bosch.
