The Brazilian keeper was stretchered off during the 2-0 win over Ajax after falling to the floor clutching his groin.
PSV were initially fearful that he had suffered major damage, but tests undertaken at the Geldrop Saint Anna Hospital have shown the injury in a more positive light.
Gomes will have a more detailed MRI scan on Wednesday, but the club hope he will not be sidelined for too long.
Towering defender Alex has also been boosted after an X-ray showed no break to a toe, but Michael Lamey has torn a hamstring and could be sidelined for a number of weeks.
