John de Jong has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from surgery.
PSV attacker John de Jong has been forced to postpone any plans of a return to action in the near future.
The 28-year-old underwent surgery on his knee during August, and he had hoped to start training before the end of September.
However, the injury requires further rest, ruling out any form of strenuous exercise requiring movement of the knee.
"It can only heal by taking rest, so the upcoming weeks I will have to take it very easy," revealed De Jong to the club website.
The news is a further blow to PSV, who have also just lost young talent Ismail Aissati, in addition to longterm absentees Michael Reiziger and Michael Ball.
Assati was forced out of a Young PSV game with a suspected broken leg. Later tests revealed that the injury is less serious, but doctors remain unclear over the time period that the 17-year-old will spend on the sidelines.
