PSV Eindhoven keeper Heurelho Gomes has committed himself to a new deal.
PSV Eindhoven have received a major shot in the arm with keeper Heurelho Gomes committing himself to a new deal at the Philips Stadion.
The Brazilian keeper has been a hugely popular and impressive figure since arriving at the club in 2004.
Gomes's previous deal was due to expire in 2009, but he has added two years to his commitment.
"Gomes's value to the team is undisputed," PSV chairman Rob Westerhof said at a press conference on Friday. "He is a key player in our team."
Manager Guus Hiddink is moving on in the summer, but the club are intent on ensuring the team which has dominated domestically for a couple of years is not broken up.
"We are able to reveal our high ambitions, now that Gomes has put pen-to-paper to a contract extension," added Westerhof. "Gomes is the ideal stopper for PSV and he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
"We are very content that he will be our man between the posts the next five seasons."
Gomes is happy to have committed his future to PSV, as he added: "I have always maintained that I feel at home here in Eindhoven.
"My family and I feel at home in this town. Our fans support me tremendously.
"I feel honoured that the club has indicated they want me to stay. A two-year contract extension gives me a great feeling of recognition and appreciation. I am happy to be a PSV player."
