PSV had the win sealed up just 21 minutes in as they raced into a three-goal lead. Ibrahim Afellay (4), Arouna Kone (16) and Timmy Simons (21) all scored before Diego Tardelli (71) sealed the win late on.
Feyenoord were made to work very hard by city-rivals Sparta Rotterdam as they claimed a 3-2 win at De Kuip.
Ivan Cvetkov put Sparta ahead after 16 minutes but the home levelled within 60 seconds as Angelos Charisteas pounced.
Theo Lucius (29 pen) then put Feyenoord ahead, but they were pegged back just after the interval as Inderlindo Moreno scored.
The winner came 15 minutes from the end when Tim Vincken scored.
Heerenveen moved up to sixth after a 2-0 win over Excelsior with first half goals from Afonso Alves (24) and Lasse Nilsson (42).
NAC Breda and ADO Den Haag played out a 2-2 draw at The Rat Verlegh Stadion.
Lowly Den Haag took the lead twice through Eljero Elia (17) and Michael Mols (45) - but Arne Slot (32) and De Leonardo Moura (81) pegged them back on each occasion.
