Midfielder predicts bright future for Rotterdammers

On-loan midfielder Otman Bakkal claims Feyenoord are a bigger club than his parent side PSV but believes they must be more consistent if they want to return to the top. The Rotterdammers, under Ronald Koeman, have been much better this season than last and currently lie sixth in the Eredivisie, 10 points adrift of leaders AZ Alkmaar. But they are still plagued by performances which border on the farcical. With the 10-0 hammering at PSV still fresh in the memory, Feyenoord turned in an equally abject display in going down 6-0 at FC Groningen last weekend. Prior to that, they lost 2-1 at Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles in the KNVB-Beker. Bakkal told Voetbal International: "Feyenoord must start to think like a top club again and I do believe this will happen. "But then we should not go out of the cup against the Go Ahead Eagles and then undermine our credibility further against FC Groningen. This means we still have a long way to go."

Impressed

Despite their sticky recent run, Bakkal remains impressed by the fervour of the Feyenoord fans and compares them favourably to those who follow PSV. "I think Feyenoord means more to the people than PSV do," he said. "Feyenoord supporters know what suffering is. At PSV it has mostly been good times. "After Feyenoord lost 10-0 to PSV there were still about 45,000 people there for the game against VVV-Venlo a few days later. That's Feyenoord. "I knew that this was a big club but if you are inside it you realise how big. "People here live for the club which is a different approach to PSV."
