Richard Knopper's sixth minute strike gave the visitors all three points at the Gelredome.
Twente Enschede moved into sixth place with a 3-2 away victory at Willem II.
The visitors ran out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Collins John on nine minutes, a Raymond Victoria own-goal on 25 minutes and Blaise N'Kufo on 82 minutes.
However, the home side pulled two goals back late with James Quinn scoring a minute after Twente's third goal while Victoria scored at the right end to make it 3-2 in the last minute.
The result means Twente leapfrog Willem II in to sixth while the Tilburg club are now seventh.
Roda JC Kerkrade defeated RKC Waalwijk 2-1 at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion.
Yannis Anastasiou gave Roda a 1-0 lead after 13 minutes before Aroune Kone doubled the home side's advantage just after the half hour mark.
Rick Hoogendorp scored a late consolation with four minutes left for RKC.
RBC Roosendaal eased their way past bottom club Zwolle with a 3-0 away win at the Oosterenk Stadion.
Sidney Lammens, Edwin de Graaf and Ramon Luyten scored the goals for RBC, who had new signing Marcel Cas make a late substitute appearance following his move from Grimsby Town in the week.
Zwolle's Marco Roelofsen was sent off for serious foul play in the first half, leaving the home side to play the majority of the match with ten men.
NAC Breda were forced to hold on for a 3-2 victory over struggling Volendam at the FujiFilm-Stadion.
The home side ran out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Orlando Engelaar, Rob Penders and Arne Slot.
Volendam made things interesting with late replies from Eddy Putter and Hossein Ouhsaine but it was not enough, in the end, to turn things around.
