The Japanese star, targeted by most of Europe's top clubs back in 1999, is keen to make the switch to Rotterdam, and negotiations have now been concluded between Feyenoord and the attacking midfielder.
It is up to Urawa Red Diamonds to come to an agreement with the De Kuip club in order to complete the transfer, and the two parties held discussions in Rotterdam last weekend.
Feyenoord are ready to bid around £2.75 million for the 21-year-old, who was on trial with the club in January and in so doing beating off competition from Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund for the youngster.
More recently, Ono was in action for Japan during the Confederations Cup, when they caused something of a surprise by reaching the final before being beaten by a solitary Patrick Vieira goal for World Champions France.
The signing could facilitate the sale of Danish international Jon Dahl Tomasson, who has been linked with a lucrative summer move away from Holland, as David Connolly, despite being a little disappointed with the club's contract offer, looks as though he will stay at De Kuip.
"Feyenoord is the best place for me," said the Republic of Ireland international. "I will only go to another club if they do not want me anymore."
