The 27-year-old, who had a hamstring problem in the latter part of last season, damaged a ligament in his knee while attempting to block a ball during training on Monday.
Lurling will have further examinations on Tuesday before the Rotterdam club can determine if he can travel to Germany, as part of their pre-season preparations on Saturday.
The striker lamented the inconvenient timing of the knee injury, as he looked to ready himself for the new Eredivisie season.
"The preparation is a bad period to get injured," Lurling told Feyenoord's official website.
"Certainly now, I have got the squad number 29, I'm very motivated to show what I'm worth.
"Now I've been thrown back again because of an injury - it has all turned out very badly."
