Sporting were forced to finish the game with ten-men when Custodio received his second yellow card just after the hour, but the Portuguese giants managed to maintain their advantage.
Despite being behind, Feyenoord do have the all important away goal and Ruud Gullit's men will be confident of succeeding in the return leg at De Kuip next week.
The winners of the clash will face Graz or Middlesbrough in the last 16.
