Feyenoord are closing in on agreeing a new deal with star striker Dirk Kuyt.Feyenoord are closing in on agreeing a new deal with star striker Dirk Kuyt.
The forward has flourished since moving to De Kuip from Utrecht and his form has resulted in him securing a regular berth in Marco van Basten's Netherlands squad.
Liverpool are just one of Europe's bigger hitters to check on Kuyt's situation and the interest in the striker has prompted Feyenoord to look into offering him an improved deal.
"Dirk is the leader of our attack and the future of Feyenoord's team," Kuip technical director Mark Wotte said.
Kuyt is expected to sign a fresh deal which will see him commit his future to the club for at least one more season, while Romeo Castelen and Salomon Kalou are also in talks about extending their contracts.
Feyenoord coach Ruud Gullit has been dealt a blow with the news that defender Pascal Bosschaart will miss this week's Uefa Cup clash with Sporting.
Bosschaart was hoping to make a return to action, having not played since January, but he has been forced to take a course of antibiotics to clear up an infection in his leg and this has ruled him out of the clash with the Portuguese.
