Sporting picked up a 2-1 win on the night with Liedson and Fabio Rochemback putting the Portuguese side in total control before Nicky Hofs' late consolation.
However, the match will be remembered for referee Florian Meyer's justified decision to take the players off after a coin hit Rui Jorge, following Liedson's goal.
Play had already been halted for five minutes earlier when goalkeeper Ricardo was hit by a firework.
