The Japanese international is contracted until 2007, although has lost his place to Nicky Hofs after suffering an ankle injury in December.
The 25-year-old joined Feyenoord in 2001, and Ruud Gullit now appears to be ready to let the midfielder move on, although technical director Mark Wotte did admit it was not a foregone conclusion.
"For regularity's sake, Shinji doesn't have to leave," Wotte told Voetbal International.
"Now he is a substitute player, for the first time in his career, although you don't know how long that will last, Shinji can also play together with Nicky Hofs."
In other news Christian Gyan may be set to finish the season at Sparta, as the defender is out of contract in the summer and has been suffering with a knee injury this year.
Feyenoord also face losing head of education Henk Van Stee, as it is reported that he will take over from Mike Snoei as Sparta trainer at the end of the season.
The De Kuip outfit are eying former player Stanley Brard as a replacement for the man they were reluctant to let go.
