Long road back for Hofs

Nicky Hofs is expected to be out of action for around six months.

Nicky Hofs is expected to be out of action for around six months after undergoing knee surgery on Friday.

The Dutch international midfielder damaged the cruciate ligament in his right knee a fortnight ago and the problem was serious enough to warrant reconstructive surgery.

The operation passed off without a hitch and Hofs is set to begin his lengthy rehabilitation programme in around three weeks' time.

Romeo Castelen is another Feyenoord player battling his way back to fitness, with the forward looking shake off the hamstring complaint he picked up in a pre-season friendly against Charlton.

Tim Vincken has added to Feyenoord's injury woes, with the teenage winger picking up a hamstring injury which is likely to sideline him for three weeks.
