"After a large consultation with family, my representative and a couple of confidants and advisors, I have decided to choose to play for the national squad of The Netherlands."
Holland coach Marco van Basten welcomed the decision of Yildirim.
"I'm happy, and with me undoubtedly all football lovers from The Netherlands, that Ugur wants to play for The Netherlands.
"He is an excellent footballer and an enrichment for the selection of The Oranje.
"I'm aware that it was a difficult choice.
"That he has eventually chosen The Netherlands is wise for the footballer Yildirim, because he has played football here his whole life and is used to our way of playing."
