Heerenveen targeting defender

Heerenveen are plotting a summer raid on Vitesse Arnhem for Michael Dingsdag.

Heerenveen are plotting a summer raid on Vitesse Arnhem for Michael Dingsdag.

The Frisian club are keen to strengthen their defensive options and have made contact with Vitesse, but they may face stiff competition for his signature.

"They have reported themselves to us," Vitesse's football director Jan Streuer told Omroep Gelderland. "It's something between the clubs."

Dingsdag may have a number of options to chew over this summer, as his agent Giuseppe Dello Russo added: "There is more interest, for example Feyenoord, Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen.

"But Heerenveen offer the guarantee of a first team starting position. Besides they play European football."

Heerenveen have handed a new deal to Brian Vandenbussche.

The Belgian keeper has made a huge impression at the Abe Lenstra and has been handed a deal which runs until 2011.
