Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has been appointed as a consultant at Dutch side Roda JC.

The appointment comes after last week's announcement that Russian-Swiss investor Aleksei Korotaev had bought a minority share in the club, who are second bottom of the Eredivisie.

Roda announced Anelka "will arrive this week and start beefing up the club at once". The 37-year-old has been brought in to advise the club on their football academy and on signing players from France, and technical director, Ton Caanen, said it was an excellent appointment.

Nicholas Anelka was Arsenal's top scorer in the 1998/99 season

"When I met Nicolas in Dubai and had conversations with him about football, I immediately had the idea that I was not just dealing with a former football player, but also someone who has a very interesting idea about football in general," Caanen told the club's website.

"We are proud that we can add someone of his calibre to our organisation. We will now discuss with Aleksei Korotaev how we are going to give precise details on his role."

The club also revealed that they had signed 21-year-old winger Lyes Houri on loan from Bastia on Anelka's advice.
