Important wins for FC Twente, Feyenoord, Heerenveen and PSV

FC Twente, Feyenoord, Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven all won on Saturday to boost their Eredivisie title hopes. FC Twente kept up the pressure on Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar with a 2-0 home victory over Roda JC. Neither side created any chances of note in the first half but the Enschede club moved up a gear after the interval and deservedly clinched the points thanks to goals from Douglas and substitute Wesley Verhoek. The win moved Steve McClaren's side within a point of AZ, who visit Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday, and level on points with champions Ajax, who welcome Heracles Almelo to the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday. Feyenoord's refusal to give up on the Eredivisie title was evident again as they beat NAC Breda 3-1 to move to within two points of the summit. The victory kicked off with a third-minute Otman Bakkal opener and, although Mer Bayram levelled, goals from Ruben Schaken and Sekou Cisse sealed it.

Struck twice

Bas Dost struck twice as high-flying Heerenveen claimed a deserved 3-1 win over FC Groningen to sit level on points with Feyenoord. Dost opened the scoring in the 24th minute and then restored his side's advantage just before half-time after Dusan Tadic had drawn the home side level. Viktor Elm then added a third goal late on for Heerenveen as they posted their third win in four games. PSV Eindhoven are also just two points off the top after a 2-0 home success over VVV Venlo. Tim Matavz put the hosts ahead on ten minutes before substitute Memphis Depay made sure of the points at the death.
