Despite having only won once so far this season the home side started brightly, but could not push home their advantage as the match went in scoreless at the break.
Just as the visitors began to create some chances of their own, they took the lead shortly after the hour mark. It proved to be a lead NEC would not surrender.
Patrick Ax, 22, netted on 62 minutes and the points were virtually assured only six minutes later when Macedonian striker Georgi Hristov (pictured) doubled the visitors advantage.
Hristov was forced to pull out of his country's surprise 2-2 draw against England at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium through injury, however the 26-year-old showed little signs of the knee problem he has been suffering from of late.
Arvid Smit pulled a goal back to give the home fans hope, however parity was restored just moments later when Danny Hesp scored from the spot to seal the points.
