NEC Nijmegen's bid to reach the Intertoto Cup started brightly.
NEC Nijmegen's bid to reach the Intertoto Cup started brightly as they claimed a 2-0 win over Heracles Almelo, while RKC Waalwijk and Vitesse Arnhem played out a 4-4 draw.
It is a drawn-out procedure just to reach the summer competition, but NEC look poised to progress as goals from Bjorn van der Doelen and Said Boutahar gave them a 2-0 win in the first leg.
Who they will meet in the next round is not clear, as RKC and Vitesse served up an eight-goal draw.
Vitesse will be wondering how they did not kill off the tie, as they were 4-0 up through a hat-trick from Mads Junker and shot from Youssouf Hersi (pictured).
However, RKC produced a stirring fightback and levelled the contest thanks to goals from Gianni Zuiverloon, Dustley Mulder and a brace from Dominique van Dijk.
