The midfielder, who was handed the captaincy at the start of the campaign, had been performing well prior to being suspended for disciplinary reasons.
After recovering from a minor ankle knock, Janssen, who accepted the club`s decision to drop him, had a run out against Young FC Twente, but took a knock on his left leg and tests have confirmed a broken shin bone.
The news will come as a crushing blown to Vitesse, as Janssen, who was rumoured to be close to a full national call-up prior to his problems, is likely to be sidelined for around six months after having corrective surgery at a medical centre in Enschede.
