Diarra moved to Lyon for around £4 million, van der Schaaf stayed in Holland with a transfer to PSV Eindhoven, while Sikora is set to clinch a move to Fulham by the end of the week.
Dutch football, like most countries, is in a cash crisis and Vitesse have revealed that the sales were vital for their survival.
New Vitesse coach Mike Snoei said: "If these sales had not happened, then bankruptcy would have been the only outcome."
Snoei feels the future is bright for Vitesse, adding: "We have a young and talented group, full of ambition and potential."
He is looking to bolster the squad with a quality midfielder, saying: "If we add a midfielder, and we have a few in mind, I'll be satisfied for the moment."
