New deals for Vitesse starlets

Vitesse Arnhem have handed new contracts to two of their most promising youngsters.

Vitesse Arnhem have handed new contracts to two of their most promising youngsters.

Keeper Piet Velthuizen and forward Rihairo Meulens have signed four and three-year contracts respectively.

Meulens, 17, is set to continue his progress in the youth and reserve teams, but Velthuizen has been informed he will be the number two to Harald Wapenaar next term.

"I'm convinced that Velthuizen can reach the first squad," predicted director of football Jan Streuer on the club's website. "But with goalkeepers it usually takes a little longer and he will have to show patience.

"But when we need him, and who knows how quick that can be, I know for sure that he will be there."

The club have equally high hopes for Meulens, as Streuer added: "We have got high expectations for Meulens.

"He is still very young and still has got some years to develop himself.

"It would be a disappointment for us if one or both didn't make it."
