A look at the latest round of Eredivisie fixtures

A look at the weekend's fixtures in the Eredivisie, with table-topping FC Twente hosting Feyenoord.

Ronald Koeman: Dropped Leerdam from Feyenoord squad

Leerdam this week outlined his intention to run down his contract at De Kuip which expires at the end of the season and move on a Bosman free transfer in the summer.

His stance has angered Feyenoord and coach Ronald Koeman immediately dropped him from the squad for Thursday night's KNVB Beker cup clash at XerxesDZB, with a resolution ahead of the weekend highly unlikely.

Koeman's no-nonsense approach has gone down well with the club hierarchy with technical director Martin van Geel telling AD Sportwereld: "We left Ronald free to do what he wished but we are pleased that he thinks the same way as us.

"Will Leerdam be sold in the winter? We will have to see."

The situation is an unwanted distraction for Feyenoord who have bounced back well from a slow start to the season with a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Their last outing was a 2-2 draw against arch-rivals Ajax with Graziano Pelle netting a last-gasp equaliser for the Rotterdammers.

Fourth-placed Ajax showed no hangover from the setback with a 2-0 cup win at ONS Sneek and remain unbeaten in the Eredivisie.

However, six draws from their 10 games has hampered the defence of their title with Steve McClaren's FC Twente leading the way by a point from PSV Eindhoven.

PSV struggled to beat amateurs EHC/Heuts 3-1 after extra-time in midweek and it is unlikely too many of the fringe players offered the chance to impress will retain their places for Saturday's home game with Heracles.

Coach Dick Advocaat told the club's official website, www.psv.nl: "They struggled to impress, maybe because they were so keen to put in a convincing display.

"But we've reached the next round and, frankly, that's all that matters."

Vitesse Arnhem are the surprise package in the top three, four points behind Twente.

They go to Ajax in the game of the weekend on Saturday.

Friday night's action sees Roda look to pull away from the lower reaches with a home match against ADO Den Haag while, on Saturday, struggling Willem II host FC Utrecht.

Another team in desperate need of points are VVV-Venlo.

The bottom-placed side go to AZ Alkmaar on Sunday with the fixtures pitting FC Groningen against NEC Nijmegen, Heerenveen taking on PEC Zwolle and NAC Breda hosting RKC Waalwijk.
