Eredivisie leaders Ajax were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Heracles at the Amsterdam ArenA.
Frank de Boer's men missed the chance to put more pressure on second-placed PSV Eindhoven, who travel to Excelsior on Wednesday and could now close the gap at the top to just one point.
Ajax failed to break down a determined Heracles side, who are in fourth place, with midfielder Riechedly Bazoer and then Swiss forward Viktor Fischer seeing late efforts saved by goalkeeper Bram Castro.
Elsewhere, Groningen snatched a 1-1 draw at Willem II with an injury-time goal from Hedwiges Maduro.
Belgian defender Dries Wuytens (45) put the hosts ahead just before half-time.
That looked to be enough for a first victory of 2016 for Jurgen Streppel's men until Groningen substitute Maduro netted in the fourth minute of added time, the former Holland international's first goal since signing from PAOK Salonika last summer.
