The talented defender, who signed a new deal in the summer, believes he brought the injury on himself by playing whilst less than 100 percent fit.
The 22-year-old, speaking to Brabants Dagblad, said: "I wanted to be there for the season opener against FC Twente. Because of that I have probably forced the issue.
"When I seized with cramp in my hamstring in the game against NAC, that was the first signal."
Early reports are suggesting van Nieuwstadt could be out for six weeks, but players have been known to shake off such injuries in less than a month.
In other news, Willem midfielder Marcel Meeuwis has accepted a loan move to VVV.
The 21-year-old is on the periphery of the Willem team, and has decided to take a loan move to the Gouden Gids Divisie outfit.
Willem extended the youngster`s deal until 2005 in the summer, and they are looking for him to gain experience over the course of this term.
