Willem II striker Iwan Redan could be facing the axe for fighting with Kristof Imschoot.
Willem II striker Iwan Redan could be facing the axe after getting into a fight with team-mate Kristof Imschoot.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during the Tilburg club's Dutch Cup game with De Graafschap, with Redan allegedly head-butting the Belgian midfielder.
Willem II boss Dennis van Wijk had initially played down the incident, claiming that it was a 'storm in a tea cup'.
However, the club's board have not taken kindly to Redan's action, having informed both Redan and his agent that the player is facing the axe from the club.
"We are highly surprised by this news," Redan's agent Edward Burleson told vi.nl.
"Yesterday (Tuesday) and this morning (Wednesday), the trainer has still said that it hasn't been right, but that it's 'let bygones be bygones' now.
"The whole year, Redan has been a model professional and became captain.
"But after one unpleasant incident, he could already leave the club."
The Dutch FA (KNVB) is due to investigate Redan's actions and he faces a possible suspension for his head-butt on Imschoot.
Meanwhile, French midfielder Mathieu Assou-Ekotto has left Willem II to return to Belgium and re-sign with former club Excelsior Mouscron.
The former Standard Liege man, who is the older brother of Tottenham Hotspur defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Mouscron after falling out of favour with the Eredivisie outfit.
Assou-Ekotto leaves the Tilburg club after joining them a year ago from Liege.
