Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra has undergone surgery after he was injured when the team bus was hit by explosions on Tuesday night.

The explosions occurred shortly after 6pm BST while the bus was leaving the L'Arrivee Hotel and Spa and heading to the stadium for the quarter-final tie, which has been postponed until 5.45pm BST on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki was sitting near 26-year-old Bartra when the explosions occurred and says his team-mate was hit by 'splinters of broken glass'.

Dortmund's press spokesman Sascha Fligge said: "Marc Bartra will be operated on, he has broken the radius (bone) in his right wrist and there are foreign bodies in the arm.

"The Borussia family has shown that we close ranks in difficult times and that's what we also want to do for Marc."

Fligge added that, with Dortmund scheduled to play Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday, before next Wednesday's return leg at Monaco, there was no alternative but to reschedule the first leg for Wednesday (kick-off 5.45pm BST).

The Dortmund spokesman also confirmed the team bus had strengthened glass in its windows, but the force of the blasts had still shattered several panes.
