Man City's Fernandinho targets the Champions League final in an exclusive Q&A with Sky Sports.

Qualification for this season's knockout stages in the Champions League may already be assured but that is far from the end of Manchester City's ambitions. Manuel Pellegrini takes his free-scoring squad on the daunting trip to Bayern Munich on Tuesday for their last game of Group D with a debut place in the last 16 already assured. City could even beat Pep Guardiola's defending champions to the sought-after top spot in the group if they produce what would be a major shock of a 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena. Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho will be a key man if they are to achieve a famous victory by the necessary scoreline in Germany, particularly in the absence of the suspended Yaya Toure. But the £30million summer signing from Shakhtar Donetsk does not want simply reaching the knockout rounds to be the end of City's Champions League aspirations. Here, Fernandinho tells Sky Sports about his targets, toughest European opponents and finest moments.

What do you are your club-mates want to achieve in the Champions League in 2013/14?

"We want to go as far as possible. As far as possible for Manchester City in this season's Champions League would be to reach the final."

And how much of a challenge would it be for City to reach the final, which will be staged at Portugal's Estadio da Luz?

"To get to the final, we will have to play a lot of opponents. There is pressure from everywhere the further you go in the competition. It is difficult. I would be over the moon if we can reach the final but, at the same time, I would have a lot of butterflies in my stomach."

Who is the toughest opponent you have faced in the Champions League so far in your career?

"It is not just about one player; it is about a whole team. In 2011, I played against Barcelona in the season they won the Champions League. It was in the quarter-finals with Shakhtar Donetsk and we lost 6-1 on aggregate. That whole Barcelona team was incredible to play against."

What is your favourite memory from the Champions League?

"It is a goal I scored for Shakhtar Donetsk against Basel in 2008. It was a free-kick from about 40 yards and I hit it fast past the goalkeeper and into the top corner."

What does the Champions League mean to you? Is it the greatest competition in world football?

"It is a privilege to play in the Champions League. Everyone watches the tournament. It is a happy competition for those who manage to win the European Cup.
