Coming off the back of successive home defeats in the Premier League, United returned to Old Trafford on Tuesday determined to right a few wrongs.
A nervy opening to their UEFA Champions League clash with a dangerous Shakhtar outfit suggested all of those connected with the Red Devils were feeling the strain.
United survived a few first-half scares, though, to emerge victorious - with Jones crashing home the only goal of the game on 67 minutes.
Victory ensured David Moyes' men progressed in Europe as Group A winners and they can now turn their attention back to the defence of their domestic crown and the 13-point gap which separates them from table-topping Arsenal.
Jones told Sky Sports: "It was a massive win. We had to bounce back and get the win.
"We have had a disappointing few weeks, it's been well-documented, but we have to pick ourselves up from it and hopefully we can go on some sort of run now.
"There is a massive pressure at this club - every game and every competition. Players have got to be used to that and deal with it.
"We have done that tonight, but there is no point winning tonight and then putting in a poor performance on Saturday. We need to go to Villa Park and put in a really good performance and the main thing is to get the three points."
Alexander Buttner is also looking for United to build on their midweek success when they lock horns with Aston Villa in the first instalment of a Super Sunday double-header.
The Dutch full-back said: "I think you have to fight in every game and it doesn't matter what the game is, you have to fight as a team and to win every game.
"When you lose everyone is sad and when you win everyone is happy. When you lose you have to stay together as a team and I think we do that very well. That's why we won today. It was a good win.
"It's nice to go with a win to Aston Villa. We won and it's good for the team spirit."
