New Chelsea signing Papy Djilobodji has been left out of the club's squad for the Champions League group stages.

Senegal defender Djilobodji, 26, joined the Blues on transfer deadline day from French side Nantes for £4m but was omitted because Chelsea have reached their limit of "non-locally trained players" on their submitted A list.

All Champions League clubs were told to include a minimum of eight 'locally trained players' on their submitted A list, which has a 25-man limit.

However Chelsea have fewer than eight so they were forced to submit a squad containing just 23 players.

Summer signings Pedro, Radamel Falcao, Asmir Begovic and Baba Rahman have all been included but Jose Mourinho elected to select Kenedy and Bertrand Traore over Djilobodji meaning he will have just six defenders to choose from.

Chelsea, as No 1 seeds, were drawn alongside Dynamo Kiev, Porto and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Group G and open their campaign against the Israeli side on September 16.
