Edwin van der Sar has been forced to withdraw from the Holland squad ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Romania and Slovenia.
The goalkeeper has missed Manchester United's last two matches with a toe injury and has continued to be bothered by the problem in training this week.
Coach Marco van Basten admits it is disappointing to lose van der Sar, but has urged his players to stay focused.
"This is a pity," van Basten told the Dutch press. "He is an important player, our captain.
"But our train of thought at these games stays the same. We especially have to watch ourselves."
Van Basten has three other goalkeepers to choose from - Maarten Stekelenburg, Henk Timmer and Boy Waterman.
However, Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Mario Melchiot are all suspended for the clash with Romania on Saturday.
Holland are currently level on points with Romania at the top of Group G, with four games still to play.
