France coach facing uncertain future

Raymond Domenech will find out on Thursday whether he has paid the price for France's Euro 2008 failings. A disappointing exit at the group stages of the European Championship caused embarrassment to a nation who were expected to be among the front-runners for the title. Just two years after reaching the World Cup final they failed to win a match and scored just one goal in three matches, a Thierry Henry consolation in a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Holland. They could only muster a 0-0 draw against Romania in their opening group game, while they also went down 2-0 to an Italy side who looked far from impressive throughout the tournament. With a number of the country's senior players having called time on their international career following the debacle in Austria and Switzerland, the French Football Federation (FFF) may decide that now is an ideal time to implement wholesale changes. President of the FFF, Jean-Pierre Escalettes, is the man charged with determining Domenech's fate and he will chair the meeting in which the coach's future will be discussed.
