Team of the week
Seb Brown - AFC Wimbledon
Young goalkeeper Brown played a key role for Wimbledon at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday as the promoted side kept their first clean sheet since August. The Dons had conceded 12 goals in their last three League Two encounters but pulled together to produce a tight performance and hold their sixth placed opponents to a goalless draw, with 21-year-old Brown standing firm between the sticks.
Jimmy Smith - Leyton Orient
Versatile Smith returned from injury to help Orient to their first win in three games with the opening goal at Rochdale. The 24-year-old, usually a midfielder, was playing out of position at right-back but still managed to head home to inspire a 2-0 victory. Smith's goal came after just 12 minutes when he rose above goalkeeper Jake Kean to meet a Dean Cox corner and nodded in from six yards.
Mark Roberts - Stevenage
Roberts pulled off a convincing display at the back as well as getting on the scoresheet for Stevenage at Bury, grabbing the second in a 2-1 win at Gigg Lane. The centre-half found the back of the net in the 75th minute, springing the offside trap to head home a cross from Joel Byrom and seal the visitors' victory, which extended their unbeaten League One run to four matches.
Luke Oliver - Bradford
Oliver did a commendable job for the Bantams at Swindon after fellow centre-half Andrew Davies was dismissed in the 57th minute for foul and abusive language. Despite being reduced to 10 men Bradford produced a sterling defensive display, with Oliver playing a key role, to keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw.
Kevin Nicholson - Torquay
Nicholson was part of a solid backline that collected a clean sheet in Torquay's 2-0 victory at home to Hereford, but also went one step further and scored their opening goal. The left-back stepped up to take a 40th-minute free-kick after a foul on Billy Bodin and made no mistake, smashing it home from an acute angle to break the deadlock.
Peter Leven - Oxford United
Leven scored probably the goal of the weekend during Oxford United's visit of Port Vale to seal a 2-1 win for the hosts. With the score tied heading into the 64th minute, the midfielder struck a sensational winner from closer to the halfway line than the penalty area, with his inch-perfect lob floating over the reach of helpless Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson and into the back of the net.
Andy King - Leicester
Leicester could not complete a comeback at West Ham, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat, but King almost single-handedly turned things around with a second-half brace. The Foxes man rolled a Paul Konchesky cross past Hammers keeper Robert Green before slamming home a fine 20-yard effort into the top corner with 16 minutes remaining to keep the visitors in the game until the end.
James Dunne - Exeter
Dunne rescued a point for the Grecians in their dramatic 4-4 draw at Sheffield United, finding the leveller in the 86th minute after the Blades had taken a late lead. Matt Phillips had only reasserted the hosts' advantage the minute before when Dunne pounced on the ball and managed to tuck it home from the tightest of angles to ensure Exeter took a point home.
Matt Phillips - Sheffield United
Phillips was another star performer in the 4-4 draw at Bramall Lane, netting a brace for the Blades. The winger, on loan from Blackpool, levelled the game at 2-2 before putting his side 4-3 ahead with five minutes to go. The double marked Phillips' fourth and fifth goals for the South Yorkshire club since arriving from Bloomfield Road last month.
Bradley Wright-Phillips - Charlton
Hitman Wright-Phillips continued his impressive goalscoring form to net a double as the Addicks beat Hartlepool 4-0 to maintain their spot at the top of League One. That brace took Wright-Phillips' personal tally this season to 12 goals, while the striker has scored five in his last three games as the current top scorer in League One.
Billy Kee - Burton Albion
Young striker Kee also gets a nod in our line-up this week for his superb hat-trick in Burton Albion's thrilling 6-3 triumph at Barnet. The Northern Irishman was in clinical form, striking in the seventh and 31st minutes of the high-tempo encounter before completing his treble in the second half.
