Lamine Ndiaye has been sacked as the coach of Senegal following their failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.
A 1-1 home draw with Gambia last Saturday meant Senegal will also miss out on the African Nations Cup in the same year.
"The Committee for the Normalisation of Soccer (CNF) has decided to end our relations with Lamine Ndiaye," committee member Baidy Agne told Senegal state television.
Senegal's technical director Amsata Fall has been installed as caretaker coach.
Ndiaye, a former Senegal international, was appointed in January during his country's disappointing campaign in the African Nations Cup.
Their latest failure resulted in rioting amongst supporters in Dakar with a number of British-based players reportedly caught up in violence after Saturday's match.
