Senegalese FA swoop for former Mali man

Senegal have offered the vacant managerial post to former Mali coach Jean Francois Jodar. Former Senegal coach Henryk Kasperczak resigned from his post in January following the Lions of Teranga's abysmal showing at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana. After much deliberation the Senegalese FA have turned to Jodar in the hope the 59-year-old Frenchman, who had a brief two-year spell as Mali manager from 2006, will bring unity around the Senegalese squad.

Turmoil

The Senegal national side been in disarray since reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2002 including an off-field spat between Sunderland's El Hadji Diouf and Mamadou Niang of Marseille. And Jodar, who is expected to sign a two-year contract, has been drafted in to remedy the team spirit and help them qualify for the next African nations. Despite eyeing up the prospect of taking on the difficult role, Jodar insists nothing is concrete just yet. "It is a great challenge, I am thinking about it," Jodar told skysports.com "There was an approach, but nothing (has been) decided yet."
