Sir Alex Ferguson is surprised at David Healy's impressive goalscoring record for Northern Ireland.

United boss surprised by striker's international record

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his surprise at David Healy's goalscoring record for Northern Ireland.

The Scottish tactician allowed the striker to depart Old Trafford back in 2001 for Preston due to limited opportunities.

Ferguson always believed Healy was a natural scorer, but, even he is surprised the Fulham ace is currently topping the Euro 2008 qualifying goalscoring charts with 11 goals.

Fantastic

"His record at international level is fantastic," stated Ferguson. "He has always been a fantastic goalscorer and he's proving it now.

"It was hard to imagine he'd go on to that level when we let him go to Preston for £1.5million when he was only young.

"Unfortunately his value has never increased, which is surprising, but he's got his chance in the Premier League now which is good.

"He's got the right application and I think he'll do well at Fulham."
