England manager Roy Hodgson admits he is happy with his side's display at Euro 2012 and is confident of success in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Former West Brom boss Hodgson had precious little time to work with his players after being appointed as Fabio Capello's successor at the end of the domestic season.
However, he galvanised the squad enough for them to emerge from their Euro 2012 group as winners, remaining unbeaten against France, Sweden and Ukraine.
The Three Lions' journey was brought to an end in the quarter-finals, losing to eventual finalists Italy on penalties.
Hodgson though was pleased with the way the tournament unfolded and believes it bodes well for the start of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign in September.
Reflecting on last month's tournament in Poland and Ukraine, Hodgson told
Sky Sports: "I enjoyed it; I thought it was a good tournament. I enjoyed it very much.
"I thought we did well at the Euros and I think we will do well at the (World Cup) qualifying campaign, I'm very confident.
"I never talk about expectations, I'm just happy with the tournament, happy with the way things have gone and everybody seems to be happy with it as well.
"It's a good start for my time as national team manager and now we will see what the qualification games give me."
After England's failure to get beyond the quarter-finals of a major tournament yet again, some have claimed the squad needs a revamp, with younger players brought in to replace the old guard.
Hodgson though was coy on such suggestions, insisting he has not yet got round to considering any changes to his squad.
"I've just got back from the European Championships, there's a long time to think about those things," added the 64-year-old.
