Villas-Boas comments not appreciated by France coach or skipper

France manager Didier Deschamps has expressed his concern that Hugo Lloris could fail to oust Brad Friedel as Tottenham No 1. The France captain made a transfer deadline day switch from Lyon to Tottenham as part of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's late spending spree at White Hart Lane. But Friedel produced an impressive display against Norwich on Saturday that brought praise from his manager Andre Villas-Boas - and a warning for Lloris. "When you transfer it's not written in the contract that you have to play," said Villas-Boas. "He has to compete against three good goalkeepers and at the moment Brad is doing extremely well. He deserves to be playing and he'll continue to do so." Those remarks have had reverberations across the Channel with Deschamps curious as to the future role at Spurs for the France No 1.

Problem

Although the newly-appointed boss of Les Bleus does not want to create a problem from nothing, he admits it could soon be something he needs to think about. "I saw what Villas-Boas said. These statements surprised me," said Deschamps, speaking at Clairefontaine on Monday. "If I comment, it will make an echo on the other side of the Channel. I'm not going to create a problem that I don't have today. "I have other problems to solve but, if it happens, it deserves consideration. He added: "I do not want Hugo put in this situation. He did not appreciate the statements. "You all know the value of Hugo. He is focused on these two games (for France) and I hope that after it will go well for him."
