England will play Netherlands in a friendly at Wembley in March, the Football Association has announced.

After being handed a relatively easy Euro 2016 qualification group, the FA and England manager Roy Hodgson want strong opposition in the friendlies prior to the tournament in France.

The FA had already announced friendlies against Spain, France and Germany.

And on Friday morning it confirmed the Dutch will play England at Wembley on March 29.

It will be the 20th meeting between England and the Oranje. The last encounter took place in February 2012, when Arjen Robben scored a stoppage time goal to give the Dutch a 3-2 win.

Unlike England, who won all 10 qualifying matches, Netherlands failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

Despite finishing third in the 2014 World Cup, they could only manage a fourth-place finish in their qualifying group behind Czech Republic, Iceland and Turkey.

England's next friendly is against Spain in Alicante on November 13. Four days later they host France at Wembley. They travel to Berlin to play Germany on March 26 before hosting the Dutch.
