Celtic forward Karamoko Dembele has been named in the Scotland U16 squad for a UEFA Development Tournament later this month.

The 13-year-old made his debut for the Scottish U16 team in November against Wales, coming off the bench in a 2-2 draw.

He then played for England's U15s against Turkey a month later having spent time training at St George's Park.

Once again, highly-rated Dembele appeared as a substitute and provided an assist in a 5-3 win.

Both Scotland and England are keen to get London-born Dembele to commit to them in the long term but he is also eligible to play for Ivory Coast.

FIFA rules state any player who assumes a new nationality shall be eligible to play for the new team only if they were born on the territory of the relevant association, their biological mother, father, grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant association, or they have lived continuously for at least five years after reaching their 18th birthday.

For now, at least, it seems as though the battle to secure Dembele will go on and he is therefore set to represent the Scots in their games against Croatia, Iceland and Austria.
