Burnley defender James Tarkowski has withdrawn from England’s standby list for the World Cup to have hernia surgery.
The 25-year-old defender, who earned his first England cap in March, was named in Southgate's five-man group of deputies and had been training with the national team at St George's Park.
But following assessment, it has been decided that Tarkowski requires surgery on his injured groin and he will not play any part at the tournament in Russia next month.
Burnley say the former Brentford centre-back is expected to be fit for pre-season training when it begins in early July.
Sky Sources understand England manager Gareth Southgate has yet to decide whether to call up further cover along with Tom Heaton, Lewis Cook, Jake Livermore and Adam Lallana.
Southgate has until June 4 to give his final squad of 23 players to FIFA.
